Fighting

Doesn’t it seem like there’s a lot of fighting going on? Wearing masks. Staying home. Social justice. Racial conflicts. Concern for the economy. Politics. The election. Family matters. You name it—there’s plenty to fight about.

Do you know who’s behind the fighting in our world? The Bible says the devil is. He loves to create hostility, jealousy, disdain, and outright hatred. His mission is to sow seeds of dissent and to drag people into his miserable existence. And he’s got a lot of help as he does it.

There’s plenty to fight about. Before you jump into the ring, however, remember who the enemy really is. It’s not the person you disagree with or the person who’s upset with you. The greatest enemy is the force of evil standing on the sidelines cheering as people fight and tear each other apart.

Knowing the real enemy helps us take the fight where it needs to be. You can have disagreements with people. But keep it civil. Maintain love for them. They’re not the enemy. The devil’s the one we struggle against.

Christ defeated him for us. So let him have it. Love your neighbor; fight the devil.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).
