What Faith is For

It’s for times like this that God gives us faith. Faith is about trusting, even when it’s hard. Faith is about believing something true, even if we can’t see it right now. Faith is about connecting to someone greater than ourselves and knowing he will be the strength we need, especially when we feel weak.

Does God give us faith for the good times? Of course. And it’s through faith that we are saved from sin. But God also gives us faith for right now. He gives us faith to get us through the lonely times, the depressing times, the moments of frustration and confusion, the coronavirus times, the evenings of sudden earthquakes, and days you just want to give up. It’s at moments like that when we really need to be connected to a God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and full of love for us.

Faith allows us to see something real beyond what our physical eyes can see. Faith is certainty in a God who gave his Son for us so we can be his children. Faith focuses our attention beyond the here-and-now to the eternal reality of heaven and peace with God.

God gives us faith for times like this. And it’s that trust in him that gets us through all the hard stuff. Thank you, God, for my faith!

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1).
