God Loves Bad People

It’s a nice thought—God loves me. But what about him or her? What about the people we don’t love, the people who have hurt us, or the people who are just downright bad?

God loves them, too. God loves bad people because, honestly, there weren’t any good people for him to love. The devastation of sin so corrupted humanity that every heart is naturally opposed to him. That makes us bad.

But God doesn’t just love bad people; he changes them. Working in them a trust in Jesus who died for them and lives again, he transforms people from the inside out. He comes to his enemies and makes them his family.

Giving up your life for a friend is admirable. Dying for your countrymen is noble. Dying for your enemy? That’s divine. That’s what God did for us because he loves us.

“God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

We'd love to hear from you.
