We count on the ball coming back down because gravity is real.
We dress warmly on certain days because rain and cold weather are real.
We give to those in need because hunger is real.
We seek companionship because love is real.
There’s something else we can count on. We can rely on it because it’s real. It’s the fact that we matter to God. Everything about us that we’re ashamed of has already been dealt with. It’s gone because Jesus’ death was real. And God says we’re not guilty. The tension between us and him has been released because Jesus’ resurrection from the dead was also real.
We can walk a little taller today. We can know there’s a God in heaven who justifies us. We can count on it. We can rely on it. We can build our lives on it.
Because it’s real.
“[Jesus] was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” (Romans 4:25).
