Being Hugged

Are you a hugger? Does having someone you love wrap their arms around you make you feel loved, valued, and cherished?

Jesus once told a story about a son who was hugged by his father. It was a critical moment in their relationship. He took his inheritance before his dad even died and wasted it. He had moved away and their relationship was at an all-time low.

But when the son came back home, do you know what his dad did? No lecture. No punishments. No passive aggressiveness. He just hugged his son. He wanted him to know he was still loved, valued, and cherished.

It was really a story about God.

It doesn’t matter how badly you may have disappointed God. No matter how much you’ve messed up, where you’ve been, what you’ve wasted, who you slept with, or what you tried. You can always come back to him.

When you come to God, do you know what he does? No lecture. No punishments. No passive aggressiveness.

Just a hug. Because he wants you to know that you are loved, valued, and cherished.

Yes, you.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him” (Luke 15:20).
