“It’s Hard” vs. “It’s Worth It”

Why say yes to some things and no to others? What’s the motivation for choosing to pour your energy into one thing and not another? We can settle for the path of least resistance, or we can commit to work and activity that is difficult but meaningful. There’s a difference between giving up because it’s hard or pushing forward because it’s worth it.

Jesus helps us clarify the why for our lives. Some things might be difficult and not worth it; let those things go. Other things will be eternally worth it, even though they are tremendously costly. Even though they require self-denial and sacrifice.

But the why of following Jesus makes it worth it, even if it’s hard. Because following Jesus means you get Jesus.

Which is always worth it.

“Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.’” (Matthew 16:24-25)
