Gilead was a region of the nation of Israel when the 12 Tribes first settled in the land of Canaan. There is some connection in the BIble between Gilead and physical balm -- a healing ointment -- but physical balm won't heal "the sin-sick soul." Ultimately we all need Jesus -- the ultimate spiritual healer who came to the world through the people of Israel.
