Focus

Drivers Ed instructors will tell you that focusing your eyes in the right direction will help avoid accidents. Don’t focus on your phone. Don’t focus on the things behind you. Keep your eyes on the road. Focus ahead, and the car will keep going straight. You’ll be headed in the right direction.

People usually have high hopes for a new year, but this is the time when people already start giving up on resolutions and start to lose their focus.

Where is your focus?

Don’t focus on your phone. It’s a tool to help you do what you need to do, but it doesn’t set the course for you. There’s way too much comparison, fakeness, and soul-sucking content you can find there. It can make you crash.

Don’t focus on the things behind you. While the past shapes where we are today, it doesn’t need to define us. You can’t undo what has already happened, and dwelling on it will leave you stuck on the side of the road or veering into oncoming traffic. It can be disastrous.

Focus ahead. There is a guide that will keep you going straight. When you follow him, you’ll be headed in the right direction.

Would you like to straighten out your direction? Get to know Jesus. Spend time with him. Follow him. It’s the best road to be on.

“Let us . . . fix our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

P.S. For one simple way to get to know Jesus better, sign up for our Cross Connections class starting the end of January.

We'd love to hear from you.
