Why do we spend so much time on our appearances? Why do we share what we do on social media? Why do we work the extra hours? Or why do we get crushed by judgment and criticism?
Often, it’s because we want the approval of others. People long for validation or a little bit of praise.
But no matter how much you exercise and take care of yourself; no matter how great you look on Instagram; no matter how much you work; you’ll never have enough approval from others. The criticism and judgment will still cut deeply. Your heart will always long for someone to accept you more fully and delight in you for you, not for your looks or your performance.
Do you know where you find that? In God. When you believe in Jesus, his only Son, you have his delight and full acceptance. No pressure. No need to try and impress him. He loves you right here, right now. Because faith in Jesus makes you perfect, you have God’s approval.
And that’s all you need.
“The Lord will take delight in you. . . . As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you” (Isaiah 62:4-5).
