We live in a culture that says you should almost never feel guilty. Some things will get you canceled, but everything else is up to you. Do what makes you feel right in the moment and live with no regrets.
It’s not working.
More than ever, people feel guilty. They walk around with huge regrets. And it’s because they did what made them feel right in the moment. But now it feels very wrong. These are burdens we all carry.
When you feel guilty, look away from yourself. See the man called Jesus of Nazareth hanging naked and in shame on a cross. Everything you regret and everything that makes you guilty was put on him. Which means it’s no longer on you. And God says, in Jesus, you’ve been made right. Leave your guilt at the cross. Jesus wants you to. That’s where it belongs.
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
We'd love to hear from you.
