Divisive Jesus

Jesus is a great unifier, bringing together people from around the globe and throughout history into his holy family.

But he’s also divisive.

Because you can’t take Jesus on your own terms. You can’t make Jesus a god in your own image. You can’t tell him who he’s supposed to be or what he’s supposed to do. If we did, he couldn’t be God our Savior.

Because Jesus comes as he is to completely save us as we are, that makes him controversial. Divisive, even. But not everyone will like Jesus as he is or will believe in him. And that’s the saddest thing in the world.

Jesus will cause you to rise or cause you to fall. When you let him be him, he raises you up to heaven itself. He loves you. He saves. He’s just what you need.

Let Jesus be Jesus.

“Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: ‘This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.’” (Luke 2:34-35)
