We take nothing with us when this life is over. Nothing. None of it lasts. At least, not all the stuff.
But there are things that will last even after we die. Last forever, actually.
It’s what we do or don’t do. It’s what we say and don’t say. It’s the little things. The expressions of love day in and day out.
Jesus says the things he’ll highlight for the world when this is all over—the things that will last—are not the stuff we acquired or all the fun we had. It’s the things we said and did.
We need his grace to cover every bit of our lives.
And then, let’s focus on the things that last.
“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.” . . . “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 12:36; 25:40)
