The art of encouragement

Words can have so much power. They can tear down and destroy. Or they can build up and inspire.

We’re using words all the time. We’re constantly communicating verbally and in print. Much of it seems neutral. Much of it is downright nasty. Because words can hurt.

There’s an art to communication. A way of using words that always considers the impact on the reader or hearer. A way of speaking that’s so much more like Jesus.

It’s the art of encouragement. Using words for good. To help and heal. To inspire and forgive. To speak hard truth, when necessary, but always in love.

Our world desperately needs this art of encouragement.

Let’s practice it together.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)
